places children from Haiti
into loving homes in the U.S. from Chances for Children's
orphanage. Children from infancy and older are available. Haiti is a
wonderful country to adopt from, and it is so close!
Requirements to adopt from Haiti:
Married couple - must be married 10 years, one parent
must be at least 30 years of age, only 1 or no biological
children (the proposed law states zero), no parent over the age of
55.
Couples not married - same requirements but must be able to show
proof of cohabitation for 5 years.
Single woman - 35 years of age, 1 or 0 bio child, not over 55 years of
age
Single man - 35 years, must be widowed or recently divorced, no bio
children, not over 55 years of age.
If you have more than one biological child, you may adopt a special
needs child or a child over age 5.
Siblings as
well as non-related children may be adopted. There are no income or
religious requirements.
To prepare for your international adoption, Haiti Adoption Guide, Cyndi
Peck, will closely work with your family, assisting you in preparing all
the necessary paperwork. This paperwork file is called your dossier
which will eventually be sent to Haiti and submitted, with the child's
file, to the adoption offices. Cyndi will be available to you by email
and phone throughout the adoption.

As with all international adoptions, the medical exam the child receives
before adoption sometimes misses a diagnosis. Occasionally a child comes
to the United States with an undiagnosed condition. Parents should be
sure their medical insurance will adequately cover unexpected conditions
and that they are prepared for this. Children also sometimes have
varying degrees of attachment issues and/or developmental delays.
Prospective parents are urged to study these subjects and be aware of
how to deal with them should their child show signs of one or both.
