We
are currently taking application for China adoptions.
China is a wonderful place to adopt a child, and the fees
are among the lowest of all international adoptions. Thousands of Chinese children
have been adopted since 1992, and the program is stable and efficient. The
Chinese government has a highly organized adoption system, and you will
generally find a China adoption to be a smooth process. Most of the
adoptable children are girls under 18 months of age, however older
children are also available. The children are generally quite healthy and
developmental delays tend to be minimal.
Eligibility for a China Adoption (according to
China's new rules):
1.
China accepts applications for adoption from married couples only. China will not accept applications from homosexual
individuals.
2. Each parent must be over age 30 under age 50.
3. China requires that the family's income is about
$10,000 per family member (including the new child), per year. Assets
including equity on a home, vehicles owned, and all material possessions
must be over $80,000 in value.
4. No
more than four children may reside in the home when the family applies to
adopt; no exceptions. Children over age 18 are not counted even if they live
in the home.
5. China has recently introduced health requirements
for adoptive parents. Parents cannot be on medication for any mental
issues including depression; no parent on a disability pension; and the Body
Mass Index weight must be 40 or less. To calculate your BMI, click on this
website. Also no drug history.
6. Parents must have graduated from high school.
7. Parents must be married at least two years. If either
parent is divorced, then the current marriage must be five years.
(Remember it takes about 6 months to prepare the paperwork for a China
adoption, so you can take that into account.)
The Process:
To prepare for your international adoption, China adoption guide, Cyndi
Peck, will work closely with your family and assist you in preparing all of
the necessary paperwork. Cyndi will be readily available to you by email and
phone throughout your adoption process and work on your behalf until your
child is safely and happily in your arms.
Now comes the hard part... the wait! In about 18 - 20 months you will
be matched with a precious Chinese baby or toddler. Once a child is referred
to your family, several photos, a medical report, and an acceptance document
will be sent to you. You sign the acceptance document and return it to us
immediately. We forward it to China, and you can anticipate traveling about
one to two months later to receive your child.
Adoption Guides is committed to supporting your family, maintaining open
communication and updating you frequently on the status of your adoption. We
know that waiting can be the toughest part of the process, and we will keep
in contact with you, send you materials and provide suggested reading for you during this time to help you
prepare as fully as possible for parenting an adopted child from China.
After your referral, families travel to China in small groups for an
exciting 10-14 day trip. You will fly to Beijing and from there travel to
the city or province where the children are located. Our staff in China will
meet you at the airport, and you will be fully escorted throughout the trip.
Our in-China facilitator, Dr. Jane Liedtke,
www.ocdf.org/adoption is the director and founder of Our Chinese
Daughters Foundation (OCDF). When you first arrive in China to complete your
adoption, Jane and her team will orient you to China and your in-China adoption process
in a two-day seminar/sightseeing program. Special attention is paid to
Chinese culture for adoptive parents, so you will be better able to
understand the ancient cultural heritage of your child's homeland. Read more
about Dr. Liedtke at www.ocdf.org

While in China, Michael (right, with Natalie Stewart) of Our Chinese
Daughters Foundation will be your
assistant in your adoption. Michael makes it his life's ambition
to help each family have the best adoption experience possible.
